Overview

Sandtex 10 Year Primer Undercoat is tough, long lasting and provides a base layer that is durable and hard wearing. It can be applied to either wood or metal, making it an ideal basecoat to be used with either Sandtex 10 Year Exterior Gloss Paint or Sandtex 10 Year Exterior Satin Paint

Preparation

Before application, the surface needs to be clean and smooth. Remove any old peeling paint or rust, guaranteeing that the surface is free of any obtrusions and defects. If any cleaning products are used, then ensure that the project area is thoroughly dry before application.

If the area needs repairing then fill any cracks or gaps with a suitable product for the project.
If the area has any mould or organic growths, then Sandtex Fungicidal Wash can remove the mould and reduce the amount of staining residue left behind
Also ensure you have the right tools for the project, with a wide range of brushes, such as ProDec Premier Synthetic Brush, cleaners and sanding tools available in our tools and accessories section

Application

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility.

Ensure that the paint is well mixed beforehand by stirring the paint and always follow the manufacturer's instructions
Sandtex 10 year exterior undercoat can be applied by brush
Ensure the brush strokes are producing an even covering in all directions
Allow 16 hours for the paint to dry between coats
Apply a second coat to produce a solid and opaque finish

First rate product

Twelve months ago I undertook doing the exterior redecoration after being let down by a professional whose workmanship was appalling. I decided to remove many layers of old paint completely using a heat gun and much elbow grease back to bare wood from my Edwardian Property. Then applied the Sandtex 10 year primer / undercoat. Followed by the Sandtex 10 year gloss paint after following the instructions. I am delighted with the results as the system works brilliantly. Still looking as if I have painted the woodwork days ago. As a result I am now undertaking further exterior redecoration on the other sides of my home. I believe in doing a job 100% and the Sandtex 10 year paint system delivers the results that last the test of time.

Durable basecoat

An ideal exterior basecoat that will provide a good foundation to finishing coats. Covers well , goes reasonably far and is easy to clean brushes and tubs with white spirit after painting . Used on barn doors that were in pretty poor condition and 2 coats has made a world of difference .Thinning down a little will make it more workable as its thick out of the pot.

A wonderful exterior paint with good coverage and density to produce a great finish

I was looking for a top quality exterior paint for my external decking having decided the regular water based stains provided no durability or protection whatsoever. This Sandtex undercoat and top coat combination proved to be â€œ the oneâ€ and I wait to see about long my paint choice lasts but it certainly has the hallmark of a robust paint according to various reviewsâ€¦.I am well aware of the quality and finish of their masonry paints which I have also used with great successâ€¦..
