Overview

Bona Natural Primer can be used for a range of interior projects where preserving the natural, raw or untreated look of the wood is desired. Although primarily designed for use with wooden flooring, this product can also be used for priming wooden doors, furniture and more.

Need an alternative type of primer for a different effect or for troublesome floor types? Consider one of the following Bona primers:

Preparation

Ensure wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, grit and any other surface contaminants prior to application of Bona Natural Primer.

For the best results, surfaces to be treated must be sanded back to bare wood
Remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner prior to priming
For filling gaps between floor boards and skirting boards, use Bona Gap Master
For filing holes, splits, dents and other surface imperfections, use Bona Mix and Fill or Bona Mix and Fill Plus

Application

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Allow product to reach room temperature. Optimal application conditions are between 18-25°C and 30-60% relative air humidity. High and low humidity and temperatures can shorten or lengthen drying times. Minimum temperature for use is 13°C.

Shake container well before use and insert the supplied filter
If required, pour the primer through a sieve
Apply the primer evenly, using a microfibre / fleece roller or Bona Swivel Head Applicator, avoiding accumulation of product
Allow to dry for approx. 2-3 hours and then lightly sand or denib using a sanding screen (grit 150 or finer) or the Bona Scrad system to reduce grain raise
Remove all loose sanding dust

Finishing

Bona Natural Primer should not be used as the final treatment for wooden floors.

For the lightest, most natural looking finish, overcoat only with Bona Traffic HD Raw.

Perfect for natural look

Maintains the natural look of wooden floors, helps even out the shades slightly. Helps maintain a very light colour, which is what I was after. Dries quickly so make sure you apply fast. Works with a normal paint rol applicator. Brushes can be easily washed with water.

Fantastic Natural Primer

What an amazing product! We sanded our oak floors and used the primer to keep the oak looking as natural as possible and it has certainly done that. If we had applied varnish straight to floor it would have darkened and turned the oak orangey but this primer stops that from happening. We used 2 coats of primer followed by 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD satin and our floors are beautiful, transformed from orange looking oak to natural looking oak and very hard wearing. We used 2 coats of the primer on our internal oak doors without top coat and the finish is natural. Very easy to apply we just used a roller and a brush for around the edges. Love Bona products worth the extra spend.

Fantastic way to check what you really need to achieve desired finish

Easy to brush on, amazing coverage, follow instruction for an excellent finish with absolute minimum of colour change to original material. Just what I wanted. No point in selecting flooring to a specific colour and feel and then changing it with oil or varnish.
