Overview
Protek Stain Blocking Primer is an effective base coat for stains caused by tannins, pressure treatment chemicals and rust from nail heads. It can be used at low temperatures and is fast drying.
Please Note: If applying to bare untreated wood, it is recommended to use a water-based wood preserver prior to application, like Protek Wood Preserver Plus
When treating resinous timber, a knotting agent will need to be applied to stop the resin from knotts seeping through the top coat.
Preparation
For the best results, ensure surfaces to be primed are clean, dry and free from dirt.
- Where necessary, clean surfaces with warm water, detergent and a stiff brush. Allow to dry completely before applying the primer
- Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with a suitable Wood Filler
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and effectiveness. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
- Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
- Apply Stain Block Primer with a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller
- Apply 1 full coat to all bare or stained surfaces
- Allow 1 hour between coats
- Do Not apply in temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C
- Ensure Protek Stain Blocking Primer is fully dry before applying the top coat
Finishing
Once fully dry, primed surfaces can be over-coated with any of the following Protek coatings or other compatible top-coat:
