Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish can be applied to a wide range of floors, including wood, cork, tiles, stone, slate, brick and quarry tiles. It dries to a crystal clear film with extremely good sanding properties, allowing a very high quality of finish to be obtained. It also has one of the fastest cure times of any flooring product, enabling varnished floors to be used within just 16 hours.
Heavy Duty Floor Varnish is perfect for use in areas which receive heavy foot traffic, such as gymnasiums, dance floors and public halls.
Floors to be varnished must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, oil, wax, grease and any other surface contaminants.
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish can be applied by a synthetic bristle brush, a short pile roller, or a spray applicator. If using a short pile roller, ensure it is lint-free and defluffed before use, and the varnish is applied very thinly. Best finish is achieved with the use of a spray system.
Please note: Where a 'dead flat' finish is required, Polyvine recommend that surfaces are first treated with 2 coats of satin floor varnish and then finished with a thin coat of dead flat varnish. Why? The 'satin' varnish in this range is chemically more durable than the 'matt'. Applying 2 coats of 'satin' then 1 coat of 'dead flat' provides a more durable finish than using 'dead flat' on its own.
Cleaning EquipmentApplication equipment can be cleaned using soap and water before the varnish dries. Wipe any excess off surfaces with a damp, lint-free cloth. Any dried deposits will need a paint stripper to remove them.
Floors coated with Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish can be dry swept and vacuumed as part of a normal daily cleaning routine. For the removal of scuffs and more stubborn stains and marks, clean with a dedicated, pH balanced wood floor cleaner and either a microfibre mop or cloth. Wooden floors should never be cleaned with copious amounts of water or harsh, chemical cleaners as these may degrade the finish and damage the floor over time.
Unfortunately, this product has not been tried and tested on concrete flooring. We would suggest looking at Polyvine Heavy Duty Extreme Varnish which has been known to adhere to concrete and is durable enough the flooring.
A lovely PH balanced cleaner for this type of surface is Bona Wood Floor Cleaner Refill or even better, take a look at Bona Premium Wood Floor Spray Mop for effective yet gentle cleaning. .
Newly painted floors will require a light sand to provide a key. Once the surface has been abraded and cleaned, 3 coats of this can be applied over a floor paint.
We would instead suggest looking at Polyvine Heavy Duty Extreme Varnish which has one of the best heat resistance ratings on the market, making it an ideal selection for coasters underneath hot cups of coffee and tea.
If the old finish is in good condition, lightly sand to provide a key and apply the Heavy Duty Varnish as above. If there are areas of peeling, flaking or cracking, sand the previous coating off back to bare wood before applying.
This varnish is one of the highest protecting single pack varnishes developed. It leaves a great level of protection in the form of a clear film on the surface which is suitable where good resistance is needed. We would recommend this for domestic use and also for use in public halls, gymnasiums and more.
