Polyvine Multi-Surface Lacquer is a perfectly clear, water-based, acrylic varnish for a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces. This includes wood, non-ferrous metal, laminate, tile, ceramic, glass and plastics. It has excellent resistance to heat, water and stains. It has great sanding properties for an even better finish.

Whilst this product is a perfectly good finishing coat that producing one of the clearest, shiniest gloss finishes on the market, it can also be used as a multi-surface primer. Some examples of how it can be used in this way can be found below:

Ensure that surfaces to be varnished are clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, polish and any other surface contaminants.

Please note: Multi-Surface Lacquer should not be applied over uncured oil-based paint as this may cause discoloration. When applied over an emulsion / latex paint, it is possible that it could draw certain stains through the paint which were not otherwise visible. In this case a dedicated stain sealer should be used.
Application equipment can be cleaned using soap and water before the varnish dries. Wipe any excess off surfaces with a damp, lint-free cloth. Any dried deposits will need a paint stripper to remove them.
Whilst a very good stand-alone product, Polyvine Multi-Surface Lacquer can also be used as a multi-surface primer. Apply 2-3 coats and allow to dry before sanding. The level at which you sand is entirely dependent on the top coat you apply, both grit and the amount removed. Typically, sanding between P120-P150 is recommended before application of a suitable top coat.
Surfaces coated with Polyvine Multi-Surface Lacquer as a finishing coat, can be wiped clean with a dampened lint-free cloth. Never soak wooden surfaces with water or use household detergents or cleaners as these can damage the finish.
We would instead recommend using Polyvine Heavy Duty Extreme Varnish for a fireplace. This has very high heat resistance and can be applied to a range of surfaces.
No, we do not recommend this on flooring, instead consider Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish.
The Multi-Surface Lacquer is very versatile and can be used for a huge range of projects. It has not officially been tested on this substrate but a test area would be best to assess the suitability and performance of the product.
It will provide some durability, Polyvine Decorators Varnish is better suited over paint work. It will also depend on the quality of the paint. If the paint is not suitable for high wear areas the varnish may prematurely fail.
