Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque

Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque is an opaque exterior coating, ideal for use on cladding, windows and other joinery.

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated with Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque are sound, clean and dry.

Previously Painted Timber

• Remove all loose and defective coatings, stripping back to bare wood if necessary
• Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1970s painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead

Old Timber

• Remove all traces of mould, algae, lichen or moss with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
• Remove defective glazing material, clean the rebates and any loose or open joints
• Replace any rotten wood and troublesome knots with new preservative treated timber
• Thoroughly rub down all surfaces in the direction of the grain to remove any grey, weathered wood and surface sheen from remaining coatings, taking care to remove all traces of sanding dust from the area to be stained
• Wood that has turned grey / silver over time due to sun damage can be treated with wood reviver or restorer

New or Bare Timber

• Prime all bare wood with 2 coats of Dulux Trade or other suitable basecoat, including any new or bare replacement beading
• Excess basecoat should be wiped off all surrounding paintwork with a lint-free cloth
• Fill any surface defects, open joints, etc. with a suitable exterior wood filler and replace any missing glazing material
• Do not use linseed oil putty for glazing (or making good), use external beads set in an appropriate non-setting mastic or a special glazing compound
• Although new joinery is often factory primed using a stain basecoat, these materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. This product is not suitable for spray application. Do not apply if surface or air temperature is 5°C or below.

Stir contents of tin thoroughly before and periodically during application to ensure a consistent finish.

1. Apply 2-3 coats of Dulux Ultimate Opaque with a good quality synthetic paint brush
2. Allow 16 hours drying time between coats

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces treated with Dulux Trade Ultimate Opaque can be cleaned by wiping with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth.

Please Note: Never use household detergents or harsh cleaning products as these can degrade or damage the finish.
