Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat

Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat is a water based primer suitable on a wide range of surfaces, such as doors, windows, metal, PVCu and wooden substrates. Can also be used both on interior and exterior surfaces and is ideal for the Crown Trade Fastflow system

Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat is designed to work with the Fastflow Quick Dry range and can be used in conjunction with:

• Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss
• Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Satin
• Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Eggshell

To provide consistent results, surfaces to be painted need to be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface impurities.

• Clear all peeling and old, imperfect paint by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper
• Significant precautions should be taken during the surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful levels of lead
• If required, clean the surface to remove dirt, grease and chalky or dusty residues
• If organic material is present, such as mould, fungal, algal or lichen growths, then apply an antifungal, such as Sandtex Fungicidal Wash
• Any deficiencies in the surface, such as cracks and holes, need to be be plugged and sealed with an appropriate filler and sanded smooth
• If required, scrub down surfaces and then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove any remaining dust
• Some new or smooth substrates, such as plastic or PVCu will require a light sanding to provide a key

If being applied to a wooden surface, then the additional steps need to be applied:

• Wooden products that have oils/extractives require cleaning with methylated spirits, frequently changing the face of the cloth, and treat any knots with two coats of fresh knotting
• New wooden surfaces will need to be lightly sanded to provide a key for Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat to grip to and provide strong adhesion
• Any bare wood will need to be primed with a suitable wood primer before the application to ensure a strong bind to the surface

If being applied to a metal surface, then the following additional steps need to be applied:

• If being applied to new metal, excluding galvanised surfaces, then lightly abrade the surface, rinse clean followed by a coating of a metal primer
• On new bright galvanised surfaces, degrease the surface thoroughly and then pre-treat with a T wash solution, followed by applying a suitable metal primer
• Non ferrous metals require a coat of a suitable metal primer to help Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat adhere to the surface
• Ferrous metals need to be stripped back to their original state with the removal of all surface rust and millscale, then apply a single coat of a suitable metal primer within the same working day
• If the metal surface has been previously decorated, ensure any rust is removed, the edges of the paint are feathered, and the area washed clean and finally wet abrade the surface, rinse and allow to dry

Always make a test area before applying Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat to assess product suitability and the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

To guarantee the consistency of coverage throughout the application, ensure enough Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat is supplied for the project area

Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat can only be applied when air or substrate temperatures are likely to be above 8ºC or when the relative humidity is below 80% during application or the drying period.

• Mix the paint by stirring thoroughly before and regularly during use to ensure a good mixture of pigment and paint medium
• Apply Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat with a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller, conventional spray or airless spray system. If a spray system is employed, then refer to the manufacturer for the dilution ratio
• During the application use the "wet edge" technique for a consistent finish
• If applying Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat on to a wooden surface, lay off in the direction of the grain
• The normal finishing process is 2 full coats of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat to produce a consistent and opaque result

The Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat in Charcoal Grey is a darker coloured primer which is used for priming surfaces when painting with darker shades. If you are painting with light colours, then the White option would be better suited. When using either option, a topcoat will need to be applied such as Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss, Satin or Eggshell.
