Bona White Primer is a professional, water-based polyurethane/acrylate, tinted primer for wooden floors. It's best use is to create a scandinavian-style 'white-washed' effect on wooden flooring. Intensity of final white finish will increase with the number of coats.
Looking for a standard finish or an alternative primer? Consider one of the following Bona wood primers:
Product | Use |
Bona Classic Primer | A trade quality water-borne wood primer for use on all wood floors |
Bona Natural Primer | A wood floor primer designed to preserve the look of raw, untreated wood |
Bona Intense Primer | A high viscosity, single component, 100% polyurethane primer for wooden floors |
Bona Amber Primer | A water-borne wood primer that produces a rich amber effect on wood flooring |
Ensure floor is acclimatised to its end-use environment prior to priming. The surface to be treated must be sanded back to bare wood, dry and free from any sanding dust, oil, wax or other surface contaminants.
Please note: The overall finish will depend on the species of wood used, due to the natural tannings which can affect the colour. If unsure or seeking a specific look, always test to ensure satisfactory colouration prior to use.
Always do a test area before starting any project to asses product suitability and finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Allow the product to reach room temperature. Optimal application conditions are between 18-25°C and 30-60% relative air humidity. High or low temperatures and/or humidity can lengthen or shorten drying times. Minimum temperature for use is 13°C.
The level of whiteness will depend upon the number of coats applied. The more coats of Bona White, the whiter the appearance. It is not recommended to apply more than two full coats per day due to risk of excessive wood swelling.
Please Note: Bona White is primarily intended for strip and plank floors laid in falling lengths. The risk of visible application marks increases if applying diagonally or across the grain of the wood. Additional care is needed if such floors are undertaken. This product is not a standalone product and must be overcoated. To achieve the true white, scandinavian-style colour, overcoat with Bona Traffic HD or Bona Traffic HD Anti Slip only.
Overcoating with Bona Mega Varnish or Bona Mega Natural is not recommended if you are looking to achieve a true white look. As these are linseed oil based, when they are applied over Bona White Primer the white will turn to a more creamy white.
