Bona Mega Natural Varnish

Bona Mega Natural is a highly durable floor varnish that has been specifically designed to better retain the look and feel of natural, untreated wood. It produces a subtle, rich tone which is more noticeable on lighter wood floors treated with whitening primers or light stains.

Please note: It is not recommended to apply more than two coats of Mega Natural per day, due to an increased risk of excessive wood swelling.

Previously waxed, polished or oiled floors cannot be overcoated with Mega Natural unless sanded back to bare wood. Floors to be varnished must be clean, dry and free of all dirt and other surface contaminates.

1. Sand floors back to bare wood
2. Final sanding should be done with a 120 grit sanding disk, screen or good quality sandpaper
3. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove all traces of sanding dust from the area to be varnished
4. For filling small gaps between walls, skirting boards and floors use Bona Gap Master
5. For filing holes, splits, dents and other surface imperfections, use Bona Mix and Fill or Bona Mix and Fill Plus

Wood Floor Primers

For application to bare wood floors we recommend using a wood primer. Primers help with adhesion between the varnish and floor and can help with the colouration of the final finish. Bona Mega Natural is compatible with the following primers:

Please note: Overcoating Bona White Primer or Bona Natural Primer with Bona Mega Natural is not recommended.

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Shake well before use. Ensure room temperature does not fall below 13°C during application and drying. Thoroughly read the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Where a longer drying time is required due to high temperature and/or low humidity, Bona Retarder can be added to the varnish to increase the 'open time' of the product.

Application is recommended with one of the following applicators:

1. Apply using preferred applicator, or as seen above
2. Start at the edges and then move in a smooth flowing action alternately across and with the grain of the wood
3. Avoiding accumulations of finish and overlap wet-in-wet without interruption
4. Allow to dry before applying the next coat. Anticipate slightly longer drying time for each layer that is applied
5. If necessary, lightly sand or denib using a screen or the Bona Scrad System, grit P150 or finer before applying the final coat

It is recommended to not apply more than two full coats in any 24 hour period to reduce the risk of excessive wood swelling.

Take reasonable precautions with the finish during the first few days after application:

• Do not cover (use protective sheets) or lay carpets onto the treated area during the first 3 days following application
• Remove dust with a vacuum or broom - do not use impregnated fabrics
• Appropriate protective measures (i.e. felt pads) should be taken for table and chair legs or other objects which could mark the floor
• Immediately wipe up any water or other liquid spillages and take particular care with flower pots

Floors treated with Bona Mega Natural can be subjected to light foot traffic approximately 8 hours after the final application. Allow at least 1 week for the product to be fully cured before covering with carpets and moving furniture. Also avoid damp mopping the floor until after this time.

Wooden floors should never be saturated with water as part of a cleaning routine as this will significantly reduce longevity and performance of the finish. Never use household cleaners / detergents as these may degrade or damage the finish.

Regular Cleaning

For optimal performance, floors coated with Bona Mega Natural will benefit from being cleaned with one of their floor mops and specifically formulated, pH balanced wood floor cleaners.

Renovation

To restore the appearance of Bona Mega Natural if it has become dull or covered in minor scratches, the following products can be used:

Repair is also possible by carefully preparing the affected area and applying a fresh coat of Bona Mega Natural.

The only thing more natural about the Mega Natural Varnish is that it has a lower sheen level. The colouration of the timber will remain the same.
