Barrettine Universal Wood Preservative's wax-free content makes it an ideal pre-treatment for most oils, stains, paints and varnishes including water-based top coats. It's deep penetrating formula protects against wood boring insects, wood rotting fungi and blue stain. Can be used on treated and un-treated outdoor timbers or structural indoor timbers within unoccupied areas (such as floor joists).
Ensure that wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, debris and other surface contaminants.
Always do a small test area to confirm performance and compatibility before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Protect any surrounding soil, plants or aquatic environments from splashes of Universal Wood Preserver. Ideal application temperature is between 10-30°C. Wood should be frost-free when treated. Shake well prior to use.
Low temperatures, increased humidity and ingredients of some wood species may increase the drying time up to 24 hours.
After use, paint brushes can be cleaned with Barrettine Brush Cleaner or Barrettine Paint Brush Restorer.
Wood treated with Barrettine Premier Universal Preserver can be easily maintained by applying a fresh maintenance coat on a yearly or 2 yearly basis as required.
No, this product does not contain UV filters. If UV protection is required to delay the greying effect that the sun causes, then consider a UV Wood Oil or Wood Varnish over the top.
Although this product can be used as a standalone treatment for summerhouses sheds, fences and other rough sawn or smooth timber structures, it has minimal durability and does not provide any weather protection for the wood. For a more durable finish and one that provides added water repellency and weather protection, we highly recommend that this product is overcoated with a suitable exterior wood oil such as Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment or Barrettine Decking Oil.
Barrettine Wood Preservatives are perfectly safe to use on any surface that comes into contact with animals when dry. This includes but is not limited to dog kennels, chicken sheds and houses, horse stables and more. It's important to remember that this wood preservation treatment should be over-coated with a suitable exterior oil. Animals should only come into contact with the surface of the wood when both the wood preserver and oil have fully dried.
This product is not designed to be used as a topcoat as it is a preservative that contains no wax. It needs to be sealed with a suitable coating such as a Wood Oil, Wood Stain or Paint for Wood
