Overview
Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque is a high build, paint-like woodstain for use on exterior softwood and hardwood. A much more sustainable and flexible alternative to traditional paints for surfaces such as windows, doors, conservatories, cladding and fascias. Provides outstanding coverage whilst maintaining the grain texture.
Preparation
Surfaces should be thoroughly primed with Sikkens Cetol BL Primer prior to application. This ensures even coverage with the best possible bond with the substrate to minimise chances of flaking and peeling.
Ensure that surfaces to be treated are suitably prepared, clean, dry and free from surface dust, dirt, wax and grease. The moisture content should not exceed 18% prior to coating.
Application conditions should be between 5°C and 30°C, relative humidity must be no more than 85%. Moisture content of timber to be coated should not exceed 20%.
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque is ready for use straight from the tin and does not require thinning. Stir thoroughly before and during use to ensure a consistent finish.
- Apply 2 coats of Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque with a good quality, synthetic bristle brush or microfibre roller
- The product should be applied in a full flowing coat, laying off in the direction of the grain, using the minimum number of brush strokes necessary to produce an acceptable finish
- Avoid over-brushing, as this will reduce the protection afforded
- De-nib the surface between coats, allowing 6 hours drying time between each coat
Aftercare
Regular Cleaning
Treated surfaces can be cleaned by wiping with a lint-free cloth and warm water.
Maintenance
The finish should be inspected yearly to check for any surface defects or damage as a result of weathering. If required, areas of wear or damage can be rectified by carrying out the following.
- Lightly sand with a fine grade abrasive paper to keep splinters and rough edges away
- Remove all dust thoroughly and apply 1 or 2 coats of Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque
