Before application, the area needs to be clean and smooth, removing all the defects to the surface.
- Traces of rust need to be removed and cleaned away leaving the bare, uncorroded metal
- Peeling paint and remnants of previous coats will need to be sanded down to a flat finish to guarantee a smooth and blemish free topcoat
- All gaps and cracks will need to be filled with a suitable filler
- If any cleaning products are used, then the surface will need to be thoroughly dry
New Metal Surfaces
- Ensure the surface is free of grease and oil by washing with hot water and a detergent
- Allow the surface to be thoroughly dry with no residue left before applying the paint
Non-ferrous metals
- Lightly abrade an ungalvanized surface to a bright finish but not polished
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water to guarantee a clean surface
Previously decorated surfaces
- All surfaces must be dry, with nothing to interfere with the adhesion of the paint to the metal
- Remove all loose or flaking paint that has been previously applied
- Guarantee that all areas of rust and degradation have been removed and all gaps and cracks have been filled with a suitable filler
- Rinse with clean water to remove all traces of dust and allow to thoroughly dry
- Apply a suitable primer for exterior metalwork
