Ronseal All Surface Exterior Primer and Undercoat

Ronseal All Surface Exterior Primer and Undercoat is for use on exterior wood, metal, brick and terracotta surfaces. It helps the top coat of paint adhere to just about any surface.

Please Note: This product is not suitable for use on decking, stainless steel, cast iron, floors or any other areas that receive foot traffic.

Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants. Lay down dust sheets to cover any areas you don't wish to get paint on.

Bare Wood

1. Lightly sand wood in the direction of the wood grain
2. Any old, decayed, loose wood must be removed before treating the affected area with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener prior to filling
3. Any existing woodworm can be eradicated with Ronseal Woodworm Killer
4. Fill any gaps in the wood with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler
5. Clean and degrease the wood by wiping over with a lint-free cloth dampened with white spirit prior to coating

Brick, Terracotta and Stone

• Remove any loose dirt with a jet wash, or a stiff brush and water, then allow to fully dry

Metal

1. Use a wire brush to remove any rust and loose dirt
2. Wipe down with white spirit
3. Do not use this product on galvanised metal

Previously Painted Wood

1. If paint is in good condition, a light sanding is all that is needed
2. If paint is flaking, peeling or cracked, it must be taken back to bare wood by stripping or sanding
3. Be careful preparing surfaces that were painted prior to 1960 as they may contain harmful lead
4. If the wood shows signs of rot or decay, follow the process above for 'Bare Wood'
5. Wipe down with white spirit, being sure to remove any excess sanding dust before applying Ronseal All Surface Primer

Always do a small test area to assess colour, compatibility and end result. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Make sure you choose a warm, dry day (above 10°C). Stir well before use.

1. Using a good quality synthetic bristle brush, apply the primer in the direction of the wood grain
2. Apply 2 coats, allowing 4 hours drying time between coats
3. The primer will be touch dry in 2 hours, but allow 4 hours before applying a top coat

Cleaning Equipment

Remove as much paint from brushes as possible, then wash them in warm, soapy water.

Once fully dry, wooden surfaces primed with Ronseal All Surface Primer and Undercoat are ready to be over-coated with a suitable wood paint.

This product covers up to 16m² per litre, per coat, meaning that a 750ml tin will approx. cover 6m² on two coats. Please note- this will differ depending on the porosity of the surface.
