Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish combines the high durability of varnish with the silky feel of a wax finish. Formulated to protect against stains and scuffs, It's perfect for interior wood, MDF, new wooden furniture, doors, staircases, fire surrounds and kitchen cabinets.
Ensure that surfaces to be varnished are clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, polish and any other surface contaminants.
Bare or New WoodAlways do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Please note: Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish should not be applied over uncured oil-based paint as this may cause discoloration.
Please note: Where a 'dead flat' finish with a high degree of protection is required, Polyvine recommend that surfaces are first treated with 2 coats of 'Wax Finish Varnish' and then finished with a thin coat of dead flat varnish. This will give a slightly brighter finish than using 'dead flat' on its own.
Cleaning EquipmentApplication equipment can be cleaned using soap and water. Once cleaned, allow to dry naturally.
Surfaces coated with Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish can be wiped clean with a dampened lint-free cloth. Never soak wooden surfaces with water or use household detergents or cleaners as these can damage the finish over time.
Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish should be applied along the wood grain using a good quality synthetic brush such as ProDec Premier Synthetic Brush.
Although the Varnish is clear, we would suggest looking at Polyvine Decorators Varnish instead as this is specifically designed to give long-term protection against finger marks, stains, scuffing and colour fading, making it ideal for this type of project.
This varnish is only suited for use on wood. It has not been tried and tested on wax candles so we cannot advise on how this would perform. Test areas are essential to assess results.
We recommend leaving the varnish for 5-7 days after application before it comes into contact with heat, water or abrasions so that the varnish can cure and be at its best performing stage.
We wouldn't recommend this as the most durable option for flooring. Please try Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish for increased durability and protection of floors.
We usually recommend Polyvine Decorators Varnish over emulsion paint. If you wanted the waxy finish why not consider Earthborn Furniture Wax instead.
Yes, the Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish works well to seal in a water-based stain. Do a test area first to assessthe final finish.
Polyvine Wax Finish Varnish is designed to provide a clear, natural-looking finish without significantly darkening bare wood. However, as with most clear finishes, there may be a slight enhancement to the natural grain and tone, giving it a richer appearance, but it won't alter the colour as a tinted product would.
If you're concerned about any slight colour change, it's always a good idea to test the varnish with a 100ml sample first. This will allow you to see how the finish interacts with your particular wood type..
