Overview

Overview

Back

Polyvine Tropical Scumble Glaze is a unique translucent coating for use over vinyl silk emulsion/latex exterior wall paint or acrylic eggshell, giving the appearance of a traditional oil finish. Colour using acrylic colourant and create a range of decorative finishes, such as rag rolling, marbling, graining, colourwashing, leather effect, stippling and more.

Please Note: To achieve a woodgrain effect, it is recommended to have the basecoat mixed to the desired wood colour.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that all surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, polish and any other surface contaminants.

  1. Where necessary, surfaces should be rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper
  2. Fill any holes and imperfections with a suitable multi-purpose filler
  3. Remove all traces of sanding dust before application
  4. Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
  5. Prime porous surfaces with Polyvine Decorators Varnish, diluted with 10% water
  6. Apply selected basecoat and allow to fully dry for at least 24 hours before applying the glaze

Please Note: Scumble glaze can draw stains through emulsion/latex painted surfaces, so a stain block primer should be used.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability, colour and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Use in temperatures above 21°C or if a longer working time is needed.

  1. In a suitable container, mix the scumble glaze with Polyvine Acrylic Colourant
  2. Add the chosen colourant in small amounts until the desired shade has been achieved
  3. Ensure the product is mixed well
  4. Apply a liberal coat of glaze using a good quality synthetic brush or roller
  5. Using the chosen method, create the desired decorative finish in the surface. Working time of up to 1 hour
  6. Effects can be created using a rolled up rag, scrunched plastic bag, sponge, stippling brush and many more
  7. Wipe any excess off the surface using a damp, lint-free cloth
  8. Allow the entire project to fully dry for 24 hours
Cleaning Equipment

Application equipment can be cleaned using soap and water before the coating dries. Any dried deposits will need a paint stripper for removal. Once cleaned, allow to dry naturally.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Once fully cured - up to 7 days, treated surfaces should be over-coated with Polyvine Decorators Varnish to protect the finish.
