Osmo Polyx Oil is an extremely versatile hardwax oil and forms part of the Osmo oil range of products.
Osmo Polyx Oil Clear can be tinted with colours from the Osmo Oil Stain range, up to a maximum of 10%, i.e. 250ml of Osmo Oil Stain mixed with a 2.5Ltrs of clear Polyx Oil. Special care and attention must be taken when measuring and mixing.
Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil, wax and resins inside are thoroughly mixed.
Can also be used on many types of porous, unpolished and un-glazed interior stone and tile. The oil will darken these substrates and a test area is recommended before starting any project.

Please Note: Osmo Polyx Oil, as with any other clear wood oil will enhance the grain and character of the wood by giving it a damp like appearance. To test how the wood will look once the oil has been applied, slightly dampen the wood using a clean sponge or cloth. Never saturate wooden surfaces with water. Once dampened, the wood must be allowed to fully dry before applying the oil.
Osmo have made a change to the name of their 3032 product in this range. It was called 'Satin Matt' and is now called 'Satin'. The product however remains the same. The 125ml labels can sometimes be printed in German.
Surfaces must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt before application (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on frost free surfaces. For guaranteed performance, Osmo recommend that all traces of previous finishes are removed to expose clean, bare wood.
We always recommend applying a test area to ascertain drying times and effect. Osmo Polyx-Oil is ready-to-use from the tin, do not thin. Stir thoroughly prior to application. Osmo oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush. For the best results, apply thinly and remove any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure:
For daily maintenance, cleaning with a dry duster, floor mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. For commercial premises, an electric floor polisher can be used.
For optimal cleaning of floors treated with Osmo Polyx Oil, we recommend the Osmo Floor Maintenance Kit.
For regular cleaning, we recommend using Osmo Wash and Care or Osmo Spray Cleaner.
For stubborn scuffs and stains, we recommend Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner or Osmo Intensive Cleaner.
Please Note: Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as these will degrade or potentially strip the oiled finish.
Renovating, even partially, is quick and easy. Just clean and re-treat worn areas with a thin coat of Osmo Polyx Oil for an invisible repair. For deeper stains and scratches, a light sanding of the affected area may be required. Once the stain or scratch has been removed, clean the area thoroughly to remove all traces of sanding dust then re-oil the affected area for a seamless repair.
Osmo Maintenance Oil can also be used for maintaining and changing the gloss level of surfaces treated with Osmo Polyx Oil.
In short, 'No'. Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breath as it is not completely sealed as it would be with a varnish.
Cleaning oiled or waxed floors with a steam cleaner or steam mop introduces high temperature and pressure water which can potentially degrade or strip the oiled or waxed finish. High pressure steam can also potentially damage wooden floors.
Osmo 3032 used to be called 'satin-matt' but a number of years ago, they changed the name from 'satin-matt' to 'satin', the sheen level of the product however remains the same.
Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil 430 is classified by Osmo as an exterior product for use on decking and not suitable for this purpose. A better alternative would be Osmo Polyx Oil Anti-Slip R9 or R11.
Osmo Polyx Oil dries via oxidation with air so it is important to store any remaining Polyx Oil with no or minimal air "surrounding" it. As such, we recommend pouring the remaining oil into a smaller air-tight container (tin or glass jar), filling to the top and sealing prior to storing.
As Polyx Oil is absorbed into the wood it will slightly darken the timber. This effect will happen immediately and is unlikely not to deepen over time however, the colour may change as the oil needs replenishing.
The Osmo Polyx Oil is too thick to penetrate the very dense, naturally oily grain in Iroko. The Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101) has been specifically designed with a thinner consistancy to be able to penetrate this type of timber.
We suggest taking a look at Osmo Door Oil as this has been specifically designed for this type of project.
Cherry wood is too dense and naturally oily for the Polyx to penetrate the grain. We would instead recommend degreasing the surface of the Cherry wood with Barrettine Methylated Spirit and applying Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101) as this is much better suited for this type of timber.
Yes, this can be used on most softwood interior wooden projects, if the timber has been prepared properly. Sand the timber thoroughly to ensure that all previously coatings have been removed, finish your sanding steps no finer than a 120 grit and wipe the surface down with Barrettine Methylated Spirit to degrease before application of the Osmo Polyx Oil. Always do a test area to assess final results.
Osmo have said they would recommend a test area using the Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101) as the Hevea wood is medium density. They suggested sanding first of 100grit- 120grit and then applying the oil thinly.
As this will cover approx 24m² per litre, per coat, a 750ml will cover around 10m² with two coats. This will differ depending on the porosity of the timber.
Osmo Polyx Oil is slightly too thick to be able to penetrate into the grain of teak. We would instead recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101).
Unlike Briwax, Osmo Polyx Oil is a blend of oils and waxes, the oil penetrates the timber, filling the grain with nourishment, prevents it from cracking and warping, and the wax content remains on the surface to help protect wood and keeps the timber healthy. This blend is likely to last longer than traditional wax used on its own.
