Manns Extra Tough Primer

Using this in conjunction with the varnish yields excellent results.

It sealed the stain and provided a good base for gloss. Used much less than coverage info said I would need. Used about 3/4 litre for 12m sq floor (2 coats as I used stain first)

In the room where we wanted the most natural, raw look, this was a disaster. It completely yellowed the pine and bought out all the bits we wanted to hide. We ended up taking it all up and leaving the primer out. Over a day of hard work to undo it. Make sure you test it out before applying (unlike us)! In the room where we wanted a darker, warmer finish, this worked a treat. We used it with the Manns Antique Pine Stain (diluted) and the Extra Tough Varnish. In this case the stain was too cool and the yellowing primer was a huge help. Really depends what you're after.

This primer goes on very well with a decent brush, brings out the wood grain and is said to improve adhesion. It has a fairly strong vapour in use but being water based, this soon dispersed.

A little goes a long way. Only needed sample pot for mahogany skirting boards in the kitchen before using Manns Extra Tough Varnish. The end result is now very smooth after spending hours with an well-known varnish which wouldn't take. Wish I'd found this before.

I bought this varnish with the Manns Extra Tough Satin and the Paint Panther varnish stripper to remove some coloured varnish from a pine bare-floorboard floor and retreat. All three products were excellent, this was the first time I had varnished anything since D&T at school and the floor continues to look great a year later. I chose WFD because I found a video on YouTube of theirs which not only helped with product selection but gave me the confidence to give this job a crack myself and save a lot of money without impacting quality of finish. All products were delivered quickly and with care and prices were very reasonable.

Easy to apply - Paint brush for the edges & roller for the main floor. Make sure you give it plenty of time to dry and denib (Sand with 400+ grit) before applying top coat of varnish.

I've used Manns many times now and it's the best floor sealer and laquer that you can buy. Throughly recommend for heavy duty areas.

We've used products like Ronseal on our stripped back pine floor boards, but our dog has ruined them quickly! was after something much harder wearing, this stuff seems to be doing the trick!

It's the first time I've used a primer over a water based stain, goes on easy and the varnish adhered a treat.

I used this primer for a parquet floor. I wouldn't recommend using a roller unless you are 100% sure you can guarantee an even finish on each application. I used a paintbrush (after sanding off the disaster created by me and my roller!). The product is great and really tough wearing. It dries a little shiny, but if you're using a Matt varnish on top, this will disappear. It is a great product with a beautiful finish.
