Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block

Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block is a solvent based , highly pigmented, shellac primer that can obliviate stains and odours with just a single application and is suitable for use in interior spaces such as walls and ceilings. Offering the capability of adhering to virtually any surface including wood, metal, tiles and glass, it can be applied by either a brush, roller or spray.

To achieve the best results, ensure the surfaces are structurally sound, free of any poorly adhering paint and to remove any excessive oil or grease contaminations. For particularly difficult areas, then the use of sugar soap is advised to remove the excessive staining. The use of Tri Sodium Phosphate (TSP) is NOT recommended.

• Remove any loose, defective and flaking paint with the use of either sanding the area or with a paint scraper
• Extra caution needs to be taken when preparing surfaces that were painted with pre-1960s paint as they could contain harmful levels of lead
• Repair any defects in the surface such as cracks and holes with a suitable filler and then sand flat
• If the presence of organic growth, such as algae, fungal or mould, is evident then treat the area with a antifungal wash
• Clean away any dust or grime, such as dirt, grime or grease, with a suitable detergent
• Rinse with clean water and allow to fully dry

Always perform a test area before the full application to judge the suitability and final finish of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.

It is recommended to apply Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block in dry conditions at room temperature

• Blend the pigment and paint medium thoroughly by stirring the paint before and regularly during the application
• Apply Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block with a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller, conventional spray or airless spray system
• If a spraying system is to be employed, then refer to the manufacturer for the correct dilution ratio and to thin Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block with using Methylated Spirits
• If a brush is being used, it is recommended to use the "wet edge" technique to ensure a consistent opacity and high quality results
• If being applied onto a wooden surface, then lay off in the direction of the grain
• The normal finishing process requires 1 full coat of Fiddes Full Stop Stain Block, however this can vary if applied over an exceptionally dark surface

It is recommended to clean the equipment used after the application by using methylated spirits, with extra care taken with brushes to ensure their longevity. Alternatively, it is suggested to view brushes as being disposable after the application due to the hard wearing nature of shellac undercoat on tools.
