Dulux Trade Ultimate Woodstain

Dulux Trade Ultimate Woodstain is a solvent-based exterior wood stain that offers 10 Year Weathershield Protection.

For the best results, ensure that wood to be stained is clean, dry and free from all surface contaminates.

Previously Painted Timbers

• Remove all traces of paint, varnish and other surface coatings by taking the timber back to bare wood by sanding or using a suitable paint stripper
• Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1970s painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead

Old Timbers

• Remove and treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss with a suitable mould & mildew cleaner
• Remove defective glazing material, clean the rebates and any loose or open joints
• Replace any rotten wood and troublesome knots with preservative treated timber
• Thoroughly rub down all surfaces in the direction of the grain to remove any grey, weathered wood
• Wipe down sanded wood with a cloth dampened with methylated spirit to remove all traces of sanding dust or alternatively, use a vacuum cleaner

Bare or New Timbers

• Fill any surface defects, open joints, etc. and replace any missing glazing material
• Do not use linseed oil putty for glazing (or making good), use external beads set in an appropriate non-setting mastic or a special glazing compound
• New joinery is often factory primed using a stain basecoat (also called a dual-purpose primer) - these materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the tin at all times.

Stir contents of tin thoroughly before and during use to ensure a consistent finish. Do not apply if surface or air temperature is 5°C or below. This product should not be sprayed.

1. Apply 2-3 coats of Dulux Woodstain with a good quality paint brush
2. Allow 16 hours to fully dry

Please Note: This product is not suitable for use on exterior timber where there is severe checking and splitting of the wood caused by long-term weather exposure, or on any resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering.

For the best colour consistency, purchase sufficient Dulux Trade Wood Stain for each project. If large areas are to be stained, it is recommended that multiple tins are poured into a large container and mixed thoroughly to ensure that all of the stain is of the same shade. The stain can then be decanted back into the individual tins for storage once mixed if required.

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Dulux Trade Ultimate Woodstain as required, following the manufacturers maintenance instructions and the preparation and application instructions above.
