Dulux Heritage Undercoat

Dulux Heritage Undercoat is a fast drying water based undercoat offering excellent adhesion to the project surface combined with a strong opacity. Suitable for interior wooden and metal surfaces, such as door frames, skirting boards and window sills and can be used in conjunction with either water or solvent based topcoats.

Please note: It is recommended for Dulux Heritage Undercoat to be used with Dulux Heritage Eggshell due to its special formulation.

For the best results, ensure the project area will be structurally sound, clean and dry, being free of dirt, dust and grime, or any other contaminates.

• Clear all flaking, unsound and old paint either by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper, using the wet flatting technique if necessary
• Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful levels of lead
• If any organic growth is present, such as mould, fungal, lichen or algal growths, the apply a suitable antifungal solution
• Use a suitable detergent to remove any trace of oil or grease and rinse the surface clean
• Any surface defects, such as cracks or holes, should be plugged and filled with an appropriate filler and then sanded flat
• Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution
• For iron and steel surfaces, ensure all loose scale and rust is removed by thorough either scraping or the use of a wire brush
• Apply a final rinse to the project area with clean water to remove any residue of dust and allow to thoroughly dry

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Avoid applying Dulux Heritage Undercoat in temperatures that are below 8°C or for the humidity to exceed 80% as this could potentially effect the drying performance

• Stir the undercoat thoroughly before and periodically during use, taking care to work the sides and the base of the tin
• Apply Dulux Heritage Undercoat with a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller, conventional spray or airless spray system
• If being applied via a spraying system then refer to the manufacturer for the correct dilution ratio
• To achieve an opaque and solid finish it is best to employ the "wet edge" technique to ensure high quality results
• If being applied to a wooden surface, then lay off in the direction of the grain
• The normal finishing procedure is 2 full coats of Dulux Heritage Undercoat, though this can differ if applied over a dark surface
