Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear is a clear, multi-purpose, water-based wood preservative for interior and exterior use. Protects against rot, decay, mould and blue-staining fungi. Can be used as a pre-treatment prior to finishing with any compatible interior or exterior protective wood finishes.
Please Note: This is a replacement for the old solvent-based formula.
Alternative wood preservative treatments in the Cuprinol range:
Product | Use |
Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (WB) | A clear, water-based, all-in-one wood treatment for interior timber. Rids wood of dry rot, wet rot, fungi and woodworm |
Cuprinol Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver | A water-based wood preservative for garden timber. Perfect for sheds, fences, summerhouses and garden gates |
Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver | A water-based exterior wood preserver for use on sheds, fences, cladding and all sawn wood |
Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, loose debris and any organic matter, including mould, mildew, algae and fungi.
Existing surface coatings such as paint or varnish must be fully removed back to bare wood before using Cuprinol Wood Preserver, either by sanding or using a suitable wood stripper.
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and finish. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the container at all times.
Please Note: The application of this product may cause darkening of some timbers. To ensure thorough protection, treat all surfaces, and apply to any surfaces cut after treatment.
After drying, wood glues, fillers, mastics and knotting solutions can be used on the timber as normal. Treated wood should be allowed to dry for 6-8 weeks before laying plastic floor coverings, rubber backed carpets or underlay, hanging vinyl wallpaper or using mastics.
Once fully dry, overcoat Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear with a Cuprinol wood oil, Cuprinol wood stain or other suitable topcoat, such as paint, stain or varnish.
Although this product would be suitable for this type of project, it is wax-free, meaning that it is not suitable as a standalone treatment. You will need to give the preserver a topcoat to help lock in the preservative and give the timber weathering protection. Give our Woodcare Experts a call on 01303 213838 to explore your options.
