Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector is a deep penetrating, solvent-based protective wood treatment for garden sheds and fences, and other exterior wood. It actively protects against the damaging effects of weathering, including sun and rain damage.
Ensure that the wood to be treated is clean, dry, and free from surface dirt, loose debris, and any other contaminants.
Existing surface coatings such as paint or varnish must be fully removed back to bare wood prior to applying Shed & Fence Protector, either by sanding or using a suitable wood stripper.
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess the colour and compatibility of the finish. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the tin at all times. Shake the contents of the tin well before and periodically during use to ensure a uniform colour.
Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector can be easily maintained as and when required by applying a fresh coat, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.
Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector is suitable for all exterior wood. The colour of this product on smooth planed timber may be different than on rough sawn timber. Rough sawn timbers can absorb more of the product resulting in a darker, stronger colour than on some smooth planed timbers. We always recommend doing a test area before starting any large project to assess the colour and final finish once dried.
Colour is very subjective and what is best for one person or project may not be for someone else. The final colour can also be affected by the type, condition, and the natural colour of the wood that this product is being applied to. Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector comes in Chestnut, Golden Brown, Acorn Brown and Rustic Green and we have found that all of these colours are popular with different customers. If you are looking for more colour choice, consider Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback which is currently available in 9 colour shades
We wouldn't recommend spraying this product due to the solvent content. Instead consider Cuprinol One Coat Sprayable Fence Treatment
As this is a transparent product, you will still see some of the previous colour through the coating. You can remove the current finish by sanding or why not try a test area and see how it covers.
It would depend which product was previously used. Ronseal have a few water-based paints some of which are wax-enriched, meaning the timber must be stripped back to bare or be very well weathered before a different product can be used on the substrate.
