Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver is a lightly tinted, water-based wood preservative treatment suitable for most exterior wood, including structural and timbers in close proximity with plants (not seed boxes). Extra thorough drying must be allowed under service conditions before introducing plants.
Please note: Cuprinol advise that the 'black' version of this product is actually a dark grey. Please check colour suitability before starting any project.
Looking for an alternative wood preservative treatment? Try one of the following products from the Cuprinol range:
Product | Use |
Cuprinol Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver | A water-based wood preservative for garden timber. Perfect for sheds, fences, summerhouses and garden gates |
Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (WB) | A clear, water-based, all-in-one wood treatment for interior timber. Rids wood of dry rot, wet rot, fungi and woodworm |
Ensure that all wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, loose debris and any other surface contaminants.
Existing surface coatings such as paint or varnish must be fully removed back to bare wood before using Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver, either by sanding or using a suitable wood stripper.
Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess the appearance and suitability of the finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Please Note: Cuprinol Wood Preserver is not suitable for use on beehives and other beekeeping equipment. Timber treated with this product will not be suitable for paint, varnish or wood stain finishes. The colour of treated wood may be affected by type and condition of wood and may be modified by previous treatments.
This product is not suitable for spray application. Shake or stir thoroughly before and frequently during use to ensure an even colour.
Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver can be used as a standalone product or over-coated with a clear exterior wood finish if required.
To maintain the surface finish and its protective properties, simply re-apply a fresh coat of Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver as and when required, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.
Cuprinol Ducksback is very heavily wax enriched and is designed to repel liquids. For this reason, you would not be able to apply the Exterior wood preserver over the Ducksback until all of the wax is removed and liquid no longer beads on the surface.
This will prevent new growth of algae & mould but any biocidal growth that is already present needs to be cleaned with a strong multicide such as the Cuprinol Decking Cleaner before application of any new product. The problem will continue to persist each year otherwise.
