Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer is a solvent based primer formulated specially for use on most internal & external ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alloys and suitably prepared galvanised steelwork. It has excellent adhesion and rust inhibiting properties.

To achieve the best results it is important that all surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.

All Metals

1. Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface, excluding galvanised surfaces
2. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water
3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water
4. Allow to dry

Galvanised Metal

1. Bright galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a T Wash/Mordant Solution
2. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface degreasing
3. When dry prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Non Ferrous Metals

1. Prime bare metal with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Ferrous Metals

1. Remove all mill scale and surface rust back to clean bright metal. Remove all residues
2. Prime within the working day with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Previously Decorated Metal Surfaces

1. All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
2. Remove all corrosion or rust back to clean bright metal
3. Organic growth must be treated with Sandtex Fungicidal Wash and removed
4. Remove all dust and rust
5. Spot prime all bare metalwork with Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
6. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water
7. Any glossy or eggshell surfaces must be wet abraded to provide a key
8. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues and allow to dry

Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.

Do not apply when air or substrate temperatures are likely to fall below 8°C or when the relative humidity is above 80% during application or the drying period.

• Stir well before and during use
• Application can be performed with either a medium/micro fibre pile roller or a good quality synthetic or bristle brush
• For optimum total dry film thickness an additional coat of primer is recommended over profiled surfaces (e.g. blast cleaned or corroded)
• On arris edge detailing (sharp edges and bolt fixings etc) an additional (stripe) coat of Crown Trade Universal Primer
• Under normal drying conditions touch dry in 2 hours and recoat after 6 hours.
• Ensure previous coat is fully dry before application
• At low temperatures or high humidity drying times may be extended

Between maintenance redecoration, surfaces may be washed with a warm water and liquid detergent solution to remove surface dirt.
