Overview
Crown Trade PX3 All Purpose Primer is a solvent based primer that can be used on difficult substrates, such as glass, ceramic tiles and previously painted surfaces. As an all purpose primer, it has been designed to cover surfaces that are stained from smoke, tannin or aerosols, allowing the decorative overcoat to produce a solid and opaque finish.
Preparation
To achieve optimum results it is necessary to guarantee the area is structurally sound, clean and dry, being free of any flaws or imperfections
- Remove any flawed, peeling and defective paint either by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper
- Further care needs to be taken during the surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful levels of lead
- Any organic growth, such as lichen, mould, algal or fungal growths need to be removed with an antifungal solution, such as Sandtex Fungicidal Wash
- All dirt, grease and dusty or powdery residues need to be removed by washing the area with an appropriate detergent
- Surface flaws, such as cracks and small holes or cavities, need to be be plugged and fixed with a suitable filler and then sanded smooth
- Eliminate any residue of dust or fragments of debris with washing and cleaning of the project area by using a suitable detergent, then rinse clean and allow to fully dry
- If any areas are contaminated with staining or bleeding that is likely to be an issue, then patch prime with Crown Trade PX3 All Purpose Primer before the full application
Application
Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.
To guarantee the consistency of coverage throughout the application, ensure enough Crown Trade PX3 All Purpose Primer is supplied for the project area.
Avoid applying if the air or surface temperatures are likely to be below 8° or to exceed 80% humidity.
- Blend and stir the paint, ensuring to work through the edges and bottom of the tin to provide an even dispersal of the pigment within the paint
- Application can be performed with either a high quality roller, a good quality brush
- The normal finishing process requires only 1 full coat of Crown Trade PX3 All Purpose Primer if it is used as a primer, but 2 coats are required if it is included as an undercoat
