Colron Knotting Solution is a wood knotting solution for interior wood and wooden furniture. It is designed to be used as a pre-treatment prior to refinishing wooden surfaces. Knotting solutions block naturally occurring resins found in wood knots from being dissolved by the solvents in paints and other types of coating products, which then seeps to the surface and discolours the finish.
Ensure all surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free of any surface contaminants.
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Once Colron Knotting Solution has dried, it should be over-coated with one of the following Colron wood finishes:
Product | Finish Type |
Colron Refined Wood Dye | A water-based acrylic wood dye for untreated wooden furniture |
Colron Refined Clear Beeswax | A matt finish with no colour change. Can be buffed for a higher sheen |
Colron Refined Finishing Wax | A superior blend of natural waxes for interior wood surfaces |
Colron Refined Finishing Wax | A superior blend of natural waxes for interior wood surfaces |
Alternatively, see our wide range of interior wood paints.
This product is not colourless but this shouldn't matter too much as knotting is usually applied under a paint and the paint should block out the colour change in the wood. If using white paint, a primer is recommended to help obliterate the colour of the knots.
Knotting Solution needs to be able to penetrate the knot to seal the resins and stop future bleed. If you have already painted and are now experiencing a knot bleed, you would need to sand the timber back to bare wood and apply accordingly.
