With our climate becoming more and more of a focus with each passing day, many manufacturers are turning their attention to developing water-based products. With solvent-based finishes becoming less popular, we have compiled a list of some of our favourite eco-conscious products.
Earthborn Range
Earthborn‘s collection of paints is hard to beat. Founded in 2002, the brand are dedicated to combining quality with eco-consciousness.
Their Claypaint has minimal VOC and is free from acrylics and oils. Vegan friendly and safe for children, their highly-breathable formula is perfect for interior walls and ceiling.
We also love their Eco Chic paint, a water-based paint for your furniture. As with the Claypaint, this formula is free of acrylics, oils and odour, and vegan-friendly. Available in 72 shades, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Protek
Protek have established themselves as a trusted, quality brand that offer a range of wood paints and stains. Made in the UK, they pride themselves on their environmentally friendly products.
Their Timber Eco Shield wood stain is a water-based microporous formula, leaving an environmentally-friendly waterproof coating. With low VOC and safe for use with animals, children and plants, this product is a consumer-favourite!
Speaking of favourites, Protek have just won the ‘Best Exterior Paint’ award in the Ideal Home Garden Awards 2024 for their Royal Exterior Paint. Offering up to 5 years protection in a wide-range of colours, this water-based formula can be used across multiple projects and surface types. The formula features an alkyd hybrid that incorporates a polyurethane dispersion based on linseed oil – a renewable resource.

Osmo Garden Colour
Osmo are a household name for their quality wood finishing products. Hosting a wide-range of paints, stains and oils, they are loved across the globe as a brand you can rely on.
