Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish

Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish has been specifically manufactured to achieve superior durability on softwood and hardwood flooring. Antibacterial properties make it especially well suited for use on furniture and children's wooden toys where a highly durable finish is required.

Ensure that floors to be varnished are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

1. All previous finishes must be completely removed back to bare wood by stripping or sanding the wood
2. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood surface with Manns Trade Mix and Fill or other suitable wood filler
3. New wood can be cleaned and degreased with methylated spirit if required
4. Freshly sanded floors should be swept and vacuumed to remove all traces of sanding dust, dirt and debris

Prior to varnishing, softwood floors can be stained with Manns Classic Pine Stain whilst hardwood floors can be stained with Manns Classic Oak Stain. For a solvent based floor stain, use Manns Trade Light Fast Wood Stain

Manns Wood Primers

Floor to be varnished should first be primed with one of the following Manns wood primers. Primers aid with adhesion between the floor and the varnish and can offer a cost saving when varnishing large areas.

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish can be applied with a synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller, floor applicator or water-based spray machine. It has a slight peach colour in the container but will dry completely clear, enhancing the wood grain and colour.

1. For the best protection on flooring, we recommend applying 1 coat of Manns Extra Tough Primer followed by 2 coats of Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish, using your chosen application method
2. When applying Manns Floor Varnish over water-based wood stains,apply the first coat of varnish or primer lightly with just one or two light brush strokes in the direction of the grain, then allow to dry. This will seal in the wood stain allowing additional coats of varnish to be applied with ease
3. Apply 2-3 coats of varnish leaving 2 hours drying time between coats

Please Note: Special care should be taken when applying the first coat of this product over a water-based stain as excessive brush or roller strokes over the same area may potentially dislodge or drag the stain from the timber.

Cleaning Equipment

Application brushes and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with warm, soapy water and wiped dry.

Regular Cleaning

Varnished floors can be maintained on a day to day basis by dry sweeping or vacuuming to remove surface dust, dirt and debris.

Deep Cleaning

Wooden floors coated with Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish can be periodically cleaned with a dedicated, pH balanced floor cleaner, such as Woodleys Wood Surface Cleaner. Mops should be damp at most. Wooden floors should never be saturated with large amounts of water or cleaned with household detergents or cleaners as these can be damaging to the finish.

Absolutely! Just because it is durable enough to be walked on does not mean that the application stops with flooring. You can apply this product on a range of surfaces, but we would avoid worktops and high moisture areas.

If the laminate is real wood and it can be sanded back to bare then yes. This product can only be applied to wood and would fail on plastic laminates. Double check with the laminates manufacturer if you are unsure.
